US DEPUTY SECRETARY of State Wendy Sherman will, after all, add a China leg onto the end of her visit this week to Japan, Mongolia and South Korea.
The US State Department says she will meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng, who is in charge of China-US affairs, and other officials in Tianjin on July 25-26.
The announcement was sufficiently terse not to raise any expectations of the outcome. However, the meetings happening are better than not happening and may bring a face-to-face meeting between the two countries’ presidents at the G20 summit in Rome in October a step closer.
