Typhoon Muifa Spares China, Slams North Korea

Though China seems to have suffered only physical not human loss at the hands of Typhoon Muifa, 10 people were killed or injured after the storm made landfall in North Korea. Pyongyang’s official media said 24,000 hectares of farmland had been badly damaged. That comes on top of a 60,000 hectare loss of croplands in July’s flooding, according to a new United Nations’ report, which also said that 6 million North Korean already faced severe food shortages. Earlier this week, Chinese officials said the storm had caused more than $3 billion yuan ($480 million) of damage along China’s east coast.
