A short update on Lan Shili, the East Star Airlines boss who went missing at the weekend after authorites grounded the airline: Caijing reports that Lan was detained by authorities at Zhuhai airport as he tried to leave the country. The magazine said Lan was fleeing because of “heavy debt.” East Star is thought to owe Hubei Airport Group more than 60 million yuan and unknown amounts to Shenzhen and Hangzhou Xiaoshan airports, as well as a large sum to U.S. leasing firm GE Commercial Aviation Services, which supplied the airline’s fleet.
Caijing says Lan is now back in Wuhan, where the grounded airline is based, and being held under house arrest.
